Child Abuse on Rise in Bangladesh

BANGLADESH: A report by Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF) stated that every month nearly 49 children are raped and 28 are murdered in the country.

The annual report of BSAF, “State of Child Rights in Bangladesh 2017”, the forum observed that 593 children were raped whereas 339 were killed in the year 2017. The percentage of rape and killing cases were up by 33% and 28% respectively as compared to the previous year.

The report issued at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday revealed that child rights violation and child abuse increased by 7.13% in 2017 as compared to the year 2016.

BSAF is a set-up of 269 non-governmental bodies, which are working nationwide for child right protection. In their report, the forum showed concern over a special clause in Child Marriage Restraint Act 2016. This clause allows that children of any age can get married under some circumstances.
