New York: The city government of New York has given a conditional permission to all mosques in the city to use loudspeakers for adhan.
In a statement issued by Mark Stewart, Deputy Commissioner of the Community Affairs Bureau of the New York City Police Department under Mayor Eric Adams, it is said that all Americans have religious freedom, therefore, all mosques in the city should have appropriate and balanced prayer times. Loudspeaker is allowed to be used.
After this decision, no mosque will need a written permission to give adhan over loudspeakers, but Fajr adhan can be given only on loudspeakers installed inside mosques.
The authorities have also set some rules for allowing mosques to give adhan over loudspeakers, according to which the volume of loudspeakers for adhan should not exceed the prescribed limit, along with environmental protection rules for the use of loudspeakers in all mosques. The rights of the non-Muslim majority living around the mosques must also be respected.
