US announces one million visas to Indians

H-1B visa allows US companies to hire foreign workers in specialized occupations

New York:  The United States has announced to issue more than one million visas to Indians this year.

The Biden administration is committed to making sure issuance of student visa process faster for Indians whose academic year starts in summer this year, according to a senior official.

Press Trust of India said, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu told it in an interview this week that the H-1B and L work visas, which the Indian IT professionals want the most are also preferred.

The H-1B visa allows US companies to hire foreign workers in specialized occupations that require theoretical or technical skills.

Technology companies rely on it to hire tens of thousands of employees every year from countries like India and China.

“We are going to issue over a million visas this year,” said Donald Lu.

This is a record number for us, as well as a record number of student visas and immigrant visas.

He said the United States is committed to making sure issuance of visas for the Indian students whose academic session will start by this summer.
