The daughter of Mirza Idris Baig, a local social and business figure from the Pakistani American community in New York, and the wife of Mirza Arsalan Baig, along with her three-year-old daughter Abeer were seriously injured in a house fire on Kings Highway. 
Emergency officials arrived at the scene and rushed the mother and daughter to Staten Island Hospital, where Shumaila Idris could not survive after a three-day life-and-death struggle.
Thirty-two-year-old Shumaila Idris was 80 percent burnt due to the fire. Her three-year-old daughter is also undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical condition due to 30 percent burns.
The deceased Shumaila Idris’s daughter Abeer has been transferred from Staten Island to New York City Hospital where she is receiving continuous medical treatment.
The funeral was attended by hundreds of people. After her funeral was offered at Makki Masjid, Brooklyn she was buried in the Marlboro Muslim Cemetery in New Jersey with sighs and sobs.
