Nanda Bahadur Pun elected Nepal vice President 'unopposed'

KATHMANDU — Nepal’s newly elected Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun took oath on Monday following his unopposed re-election for a second-time, according to local media reports.

The oath was administered by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at a special function organized at the President’s Office in an impressive ceremony.

On Sunday it was announced officially that Pun was re-elected automatically as no other candidate challenged him or contested the election for vice president’s position.

Mr. Pun was re-elected for another five-year term as he was the only candidate to file nomination papers. The ruling parties CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) had nominated Mr. Pun as the candidate of the left alliance after

In a similar way, the left alliance had earlier pitched President Bidya Devi Bhandari as their candidate which had led to her victory and thus continuity into the second term of office. However, NC leader Kumari Laxmi Rai had contested the presidential election against Bhandari.
