DHAKA: A special court in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka has extended bail for two-time former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia in an embezzlement case.
Khaleda Zia was jailed for five years on 8 February in connection with the graft of about $250,000 in foreign donations meant for the Zia Orphanage Trust.
According to a bdnews24 report, the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-5 extended BNP chief’s bail and set 13 March as the date for the next hearing of arguments in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
“The court has set 13 March and 14 March for the next two days of arguments. Zia’s bail has been extended until 13 March,” her lawyer Nuruzzaman Tapan was quoted as saying in the report.On Sunday, the high court deferred the judgement on her bail petition, saying it would decide after receiving necessary papers from the lower court which sentenced her to five years in jail this month.
