Four Afghan Cricketers Die in a Bomb Blast

KABUL: As many as four Afghan cricket players died on Friday afternoon after an explosion went off in Bati Kot district of Nangarhar province.

The blast happened when a cricket match between district teams was underway.

People watching match dispersed after the blast. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.

In a separate incident late Friday, Afghan Taliban attacked the Nawa district of southern Helmand province, Afghan media reported on Saturday.

At least 6 security personnel were killed and eight others wounded in the attack.

Pajhwok Afghan News reported quoting its sources that the militants stormed security check-post in the Surkh Doz area late on Friday night.

District police chief Amanullah later confirmed the attack stating that five security personnel had been killed and four others wounded.

“The militants also suffered casualties in the firefight,” he added.

One of the two Taliban spokesmen, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed 15 forces had been killed in the overnight attack.

The militant group also had overrun three check-posts and captured several weapons, ammunitions belonging security forces, Ahmadi said.
