WASHINGTON – A delegation of United States attending an event in Bethlehem was forced out by Palestinian activists on Tuesday.
A number of activists stormed into the hall of the Palestinian Chamber of Commerce in the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem and raised anti-US slogans. The US delegation had to leave when the situation in the hall intensified.
The protesters also pelted the delegations’ vehicles with tomatoes on their way out.
The activists were holding banners criticising the US’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Samir Hazboun, the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bethlehem said they were surprised by the angry protesters.
: “The US delegation took part in a training course about digital trade taught by an American trainer. Americans from the US Consulate in Jerusalem attended the training.”
“We were surprised by the angry protesters … and we were forced to end the course and let the US trainer leave with the delegation from the US Consulate.”
The Palestinian security agencies are questioning a large number of the activists.
