ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan on Thursday nominated Ali Jahangir Siddiqui as country’s new Ambassador to the United States.
The move has come after country’s Ambassador to the U Aizaz Chaudhry’s tenure is due to expire and the government hasn’t offered him an extension.
Siddiqui was appointed as the special assistant to the PM in August 2017.
Siddiqui’s appointment will be finalised after Washington reviews the candidate and sends a decision. An ambassador’s status is only finalised after the host country – in this case, the United States – sends in an approval.
Ali is the son of Pakistani business tycoon Jahangir Siddiqui. He is the chairman of JS Bank and JS Private Equity and is the son of the eponymous JS.
