DUBAI – Quetta Gladiators snatched a hard-fought battle from Multan Sultans in the ‘make or break’ game for them in the HBL PSL 2018 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, UAE.
Gladiators hunt down the target of 153 runs in the second last ball of the inning with two wickets in hand.
Quetta needed this win to boost their chances.
Earlier, Quetta skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and put Multan into bat.
This proved to be a smart decision as his bowlers succeeded to infiltrate in Multan’s top order.
With Kumar Sangakkara departing for a duck and Shehzad scoring just 1, it was skipper Shoaib Malik (65) and Sohaib Maqsood (27) who helped Multan to post a respectable 152-run total on the board.
When Quetta came in to bat, Asad Shafiq (20) and Shane Watson (26) provided them with an ideal start to the chase.
The score was close to fifty when Umar Gul struck twice to remove both set batsmen in two overs.
Malik got lucky to get Pietersen out on a no-ball that was not given; Multan Sultans were back in the game.
They remained in control of the game for the most part of the chase, taking wickets at regular interval and maintaining the pressure on Quetta.
Umar Gul struck again in the 19th over to remove both set batsmen Anwer Ali (15) and Mohammad Nawaz (11).
Now, two new batsmen, both tail-enders were on the crease and Quetta needed another 9 runs off the last over when Hassan Ali finished it for Quetta with a massive six over mid-wicket on the second-last ball of the inning.
