Thirteen Pakistani nationals, including eight children and four women, have died in a fire at a farm in Jordan, the civil defence department (CDD) has said.
Three other people were injured.
The Middle Eastern country’s civil defence said in a statement that the fire broke out early on Monday in a dwelling where two Pakistani families lived in the village of al-Shuna al-Janobia.
Another civil defence source said two families lived in corrugated iron sheds that housed immigrant labourers and that a police investigation had been opened into the incident.
Prime Minister Omar al-Razzaz expressed his condolences to the people and government of Pakistan, and called for an expedited investigation into the incident.
Thousands of migrant workers are employed by private farms in the Jordan Valley, many of them housed in poor accommodation.
