QUITO: Ecuador’ President Lenin Moreno has declared the man behind Wikileaks Julien Assange has become a problem for his country.
He made these remarks during a televised interview Sunday.
Moreno said Assange had become “more than a nuisance” after he violated terms of his asylum by interfering in other countries’ political affairs.
Lenin also mentioned his government was making efforts to get Assange out of the Equador embassy in London.
Assange took Ecuador citizenship this month in an unsuccessful bid to get a diplomatic immunity so he could evade arrest in Britain.
The Equador president said other countries and “important personalities” are working to reconcile a solution.
Assange in 2012 sought refuge in the embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden over sex-related claims. Sweden dropped the case but Assange still faces arrest in Britain for jumping bail.
